Medical and EMT

  • We do have first responder medical equipment and first aid at the farm. We have a EMT and defibrillator station located in the laundry room. There is a sign posted. We also have a 24/7 on call RN available, but you need to notify us in advance if she is required. Our staff are CPR trained.

Beware

  • This property is zoned agriculture and is a working farm. We grow things here! We have been farming here since 1993. You must use caution not to enter work areas without prior permission from your host. We also have people who live on the farm. You are free to go anywhere but please ask first to be safe. Your safety is our priority.
  • About half the farm is at the edge of a tropical jungle. It is not a good idea to wander into the jungle as there are hazards. For instance, you might get lost. You might trip and fall. This is a volcanic island and leaves and palm fronds cover holes (pukas). You might encounter an animal or two like a wild pig or a wandering dog or cat. There are insects. Never go into the jungle without prior permission and we suggest you go with our host or a guide.
  • Note on critters with sharp teeth: Hawaii has no known animals that can kill you. We have no snakes, wolves, coyotes, bears or deer. Aside from feral pigs (some with tusks) we have mongoose (big squirrels with big teeth)! We do have predators harmful to humans who reside in the ocean. They are known as sharks! We have big ones! Exercise caution when you swim in the ocean. It is recommended you go swimming in places where other people are present in case of an emergency.
  • Note on volcanic lava active or not: In our region, lower Puna, we are nearby the Volcano National Park. You can see past lava flows near the farm. All islands like ours were created by volcanoes. We are blessed that our Kilauea Volcano (Pele) is a shielded type. It does not explode like more dangerous volcanoes such as Mt. St. Helens or Krakatoa or Pompeii! Pele is more kind and does not have a pyroclastic flow. We do have very small earthquakes from time to time like in California. It is hazardous to walk on the lava flow as you can trip and fall and the volcanic rocks are sharp and jagged. It is even more dangerous if you hike on lava flows at night time. Extremely dangerous. You must consult our host or a guide prior to any hikes you may want to do on or near the lava fields. Our host and staff have all experienced past lava events and so they are quite knowledgeable with regards to lava activities. You can even book our “Lava Tour” which is better than just going out on your own, especially if you have no prior experience with lava.
